Linda Wilson has asked us on your behalf for info on my father-in-law, John Pinto for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Project. We hope the following is helpful.

John Patsy Pinto

-born May 13, 1926
-life long resident of Hackensack
-attended H.H.S. 1940-1944
-Branch of Service- Navy
-Years of service- 1944-1946
-Rank- Electrician's Mate 3rd Class
-Ship - USS LST 957
-Married 1950 to Ida Blondina
-Three children- John, Andrea, & Gina
-Fire Department of Hackensack 32 years reaching rank of Deputy Chief
-Worked for G. Thomas Gentile Funeral Home 22 years
-Member of Knights of Columbus Trinity Council #747 (Grand Knight - twice)
-Widowed 1987
-Remarried 2004 to Frances Carlo
   -gained four more children. Larry, Linda, JoAnn, & Johnny
-Moved 2004 to West Milford
-Died October 29th, 2009 age of 83

John was a man of service; especially to his family, church, and community of Hackensack. You could find him flipping pancakes, collecting donations for the Knights, selling raffle tickets, or working a wheel at the feast. He loved spending time with his grandchildren; teaching them to play ball, fish,  play card games, and even how to make the perfect snowball so it wouldn't fall apart before it hit it's "target". He enjoyed hunting and was a master "Mr. Fix- It".  John looked forward to attending his Navy reunion each year and often kept in touch with his shipmates via the internet and Christmas cards.

We are seeing Linda on Sunday and can give her a picture of "sailor" John, if you can wait that long. Please let me know.
